2 years ago when I filed my taxes I was living in iowa on stateline but working in nebraska. I also had a part time job in iowa as well. Problem is that iowa for some reason didnt take any state taxes out of my paychecks so it resulted in me owing a small amount to the IRS. I had the check made out and thought I had sent it, but it turns out I must have misplaced it and never sent it. A week ago I received a bill from the IRS for this amount which I fully accept but right now my situation has changed and I have son with my girlfriend who has another daughter and we all live together. She just got layed off so we are currently living just on my income alone. so naturally im living paycheck to paycheck so I dont have any extra money to give. Would the IRS wait until march of next year when I get my next tax return,, to pay them back ? well Im thinking I owe the state but the letter is from the IRS, see I was being double taxed since I lived in one state and worked in another, but the state I lived in wasnt taking my taxes, what I got back from nebraska though was close to what I owed iowa. I just got busy between both jobs and failed to send it and I regret not paying more attention. Ive definately learned my lesson. So do you think if I just call them and explain my situation, regardless of whether its iowa or irs, They would give me some extra time ?
